Ocean Cruises and Conservation?
Would you truely give up cruises if you knew it takes 1 gallon of fuel to move an ocean liner 6", yes 6 inches or for those on the metric system15.24 centimeters. We all say we want to conserve but are we willing to sacrifice.Your thoughts please.

- That's a lot of fuel. Are airplanes more efficient? Cruises are therapeutic. If you think about it, you are moving and entertaining thousands of people. So if you think about how many cars are not on the road because their owners are on the cruise, it probably evens out. I won't sacrifice because one man isn't going to make the difference of the cruise setting sail or not. Maybe they should make the cruiseliners nuclear power.
- Nope. Heading out on a cruise in April to the Bahamas. wheeeee can't wait.
- Nope. They're the best vacations I ever took. I don't care if I'm taking a crap on the planet while I'm sipping a mudslide in the hot tub of the Carnival Miracle. If the Mother Earth truly didn't want humans anymore, she would rub us out faster than you can say "flood-basalt volcanism."
- yes, many people talk green and do minor things, but when it comes time for a vacation they have no problem flying from the USA to New Zealand, which in the end makes them worse polluters than the guy driving the big SUV every day rather than the electric hybrid, but whose idea of a vacation is to go 100 miles away and hang out at the lake for a week
- Let's do the math. If there are 1,000 people on that cruise ship, that's 1/1000 of a gallon per six inches. If there are 5,280 people on that cruise ship, that's 1/5280 of a gallon of fuel per six inches. That would be 1/2 of a mile per gallon per person (1/2 MPG-PP). So, for every 10,560 people on a single cruise ship, there is 1 Mile Per Gallon of fuel for every single person. In order to have the same environmental impact on a per-person basis as an average car (30 MPG), you would need to fit 316,800 people on the exact same ship. To put that into perspective, you would need to fit every person that lives in Savannah, Georgia on one ship. There are WAY more efficient ways to travel, and even though you might not have fun during the trip, most of the fun you have is when you get there.
- What about people needlessly driving around and going out to the mall to a movie..out to eat when they could stay home???
- Why don't we all give up everything, commit suicide, and be done with it? Will toenail clippings be found to be damaging the earth too? How about used toothpicks? Enough already.
- I would give up a cruise...I would give up my car if they would make trains like Europe has in cities for people to get around.
- don`t take away anything that fun
- some people don't think of conservation, they are selfish all they want is to get what they want, they are idiot. . .so the answer to your question would be majority "NO".
- I do not know have never been on a cruise but if you are asking if I would give up a future time when I might be able to do it,then no.Everyone else got to go why shouldn't I ? That is the problem even if I said I would not go and didn't ten other people would go in my place saving what??
